Team Member Spotlight
Hanna Lee
What is your role at BOL?
I am a legal assistant, and I help the attorneys with everything they need – filing and preparing pleadings, discovery and administrative work. I am a team player and will help anyone – attorneys and legal assistants alike.
Before working at BOL, what was your most unusual or interesting job?
My most interesting job was when I worked at an ice cream shop in the Compton Swap Meet while I was in high school. It was such a lively melting pot of diverse cultures and people from many different walks of life. I also grew to love hip-hop, which I picked up from the neighboring CD and mixtape store owned by a Korean family where many West Coast rappers first distributed their tapes and CDs. I also enjoyed unlimited access to ceviches, chili mango, paletas, and Fritos topped with chili cheese.
What is your favorite part about working at BOL?
The people – they are professional, smart, friendly, and caring towards the staff and clients.
What has been your favorite project or proudest moment at BOL?
It’s difficult to narrow down to a single proudest moment at BOL. I’m proud of my ability not only to follow instructions, but to also think outside of the box and find additional or better solutions and ideas. I also take pride in my ability to work independently and collaboratively, especially when I prepared calculations and post-judgment documents for a case where a judgment was entered in favor of our clients after trial recently.
How has BOL helped with your career development?
Prior to BOL, I was a file clerk and now I am a legal assistant. With my work ethic and some help from the attorneys and administrative team, I have grown to be more knowledgeable, confident, assertive, communicative, and detail-oriented at work and my life outside of the office.
What do you find most challenging about your job?
Trial preparation can be challenging but it is very rewarding, especially when the verdict is in our clients’ favor.
What are your goals/aspirations for your career?
I want to be the best I can be at my position, and ultimately, I would like to be a paralegal and take on a more involved role by conducting legal research, drafting documents, and conferring with the attorneys and clients from the beginning of the case to the very end. I also plan on taking additional courses in employment and real estate law, and I would also like to attend graduate school and earn a degree in psychology or marriage and family therapy.
