PROFILE
Tyler J. Johnson is a partner in BOL’s Employment Group. He represents employers and employees in complex employment litigation and workplace counseling. He is a trusted advocate who provides strategic legal guidance designed to minimize risk while supporting practical objectives. Clients frequently praise Tyler for his strategic thinking, unwavering focus on their goals, and commitment to understanding their unique circumstances.
His litigation practice focuses on defending employers against all types of employment-related claims in state and federal courts, in arbitration, as well as before administrative agencies. Tyler represents employers through every stage of litigation, from pre-suit investigations and dispositive motions to trial and binding arbitration. He has extensive experience litigating allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and other employment-related disputes.
Tyler also has substantial experience defending employers in complex wage and hour class actions and representative actions brought under PAGA in California. During his time as a partner at an AmLaw 100 firm, he was a co-author of “California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) – Litigation and Compliance Manual,” a top resource for attorneys navigating California’s evolving PAGA landscape.
In addition to his litigation practice, Tyler advises employers and employees on the full spectrum of workplace issues and proactively addresses workplace challenges before they become disputes. He assists employers with drafting employee handbooks, personnel policies, and employment agreements to ensure compliance with current legal standards and industry best practices. As a recognized speaker on California employment law, he frequently presents to attorneys, human resources professionals, and payroll personnel on the state’s ever-changing wage and hour laws, offering practical guidance on compliance strategies, litigation trends, and emerging legal developments.
Outside of the office, Tyler enjoys traveling to new destinations and exploring local cuisines. He is a fan of musical theater and live music and often attends productions or performances at Los Angeles’ many unique music venues, when his Bernedoodle, Riley, allows it.
